Jagjit Singh reveres Shirdi saint

JagjitSingh (6K)Shirdi, the home of the revered Sai Baba shrine, recently saw the release of Saregama’s VCD/DVD, Sai Dhun. Sai Baba has millions of devotees and numerous albums dedicated to him have been released in the past. The saint believed that all religions led to one God and preached religious tolerance.

Sai Dhun is special because veteran Jagjit Singh has written, composed and sung the album immediately after the tsunami disaster. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had released the audio version of the album earlier this year in New Delhi. The funds generated from the sales of both the audio and video versions will go towards tsunami relief. The first cheque of Rupees 11 lakhs was handed over to the Prime Minister by a Saregama representative during the audio release four months ago.

Singh, on his part, is happy to have collaborated on yet another album with Saregama. He has done many religious albums in the past including albums on Hindu deities, Christianity and Sikhism. He has intense faith in Sai Baba. This album, then, is a culmination of his belief in religious tolerance, his passion towards social causes and his faith in the saint.
