Profile-Anoushka Shankar
Being Pandit Ravi Shankar's daughter is daunting - he is one of the best known musicians not only in India, but the world over. Howver, his daughter Anoushka Shankar, a sitarist , like her father, seems anything but awed. She does not want to deny her history just because her father is who he is. He is also her guru and she will always be proud of the fact that she is his daughter.
Music Happening-The Music Goes on in Mumbai
The November 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks have made a deep impression in the minds of its cosmopolitan inhabitants. For law and order personnel, it means more vigilance, increased security, and sleepless nights. Still, the city has returned to normalcy surprisingly fast and we applaud its spirit.
Movie Review-Gulaal
Set in the fictional Rajpur town of modern-day Rajasthan, Gulaal is rife with stories of student politics, a secret local rebellion for an independent Rajputana state and love taking it forward. The meek Dileep Singh (Raj Singh Chaudhary) is an idealistic man who gets caught in the whirlpool of student politics. Bollywood gets yet another talented actor in Raj Singh Chaudhari who happens to be the co-writer of the film's story
Interview-Mahalaxmi Iyer on Rahman
Earlier people criticized him as the keyboard man only but for singers he gave us superb melodies to sing and the way he records a number even the singer doesn?t know how it will sound in the end and we end up being surprised by his virtuosity. He completely deserves the recognition he has got and it'll help all of India.
Movie Review-Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge
DRJ (meaning youd keep on searching) makes one intensify his search to find out as to what the director was aiming at his fans. If you are looking for intelligent comedy flicks like the Amol Palekar-starrer Golmaal, you might as well find that your hopes are once again dashed by this film.
Profile-Soha Ali Khan
Soha is one of few artists who manage to combine mainstream 'commercial' cinema and arty films successfully. She loves variety and that makes it easy for her to take on both types of films. She does a few films because she wants to give her best. Otherwise, she is not too motivated to join the rat race in Bollywood, where actresses kick each other out of the way to achieve that elusive Number One status which never lasts anyway.
Music Snippet-Sa Re Ga Ma of Bollywood
Kylie goes Blue in Bollywood, Honorary doctorate for Rahman, No surprise in Filmfare awards, Professionalism personified, Rapping away, Asha never forgets, The Rs. 80 lakh song, Chaat, anyone, Classical Music and Dance Festival, Lata recovering from knee surgery
Movie Review-13 B
A film from the stable of national award winner Vikram K. Kumar, '13 B' is a sort of Hum Aapke Hain Kaun having been shot in a Bhoot backdrop. Though there aren't any genuinely frightening Hollywood-like moments, Kumar manages to infuse enough creepiness to keep us guessing. The new twist on reality television, with characters on television foretelling life and even the dialogue and gestures, somewhat beats the logic.
Interview-Abhay Deol
He's different from the Deol brothers Bobby and Sunny in that he's not as flamboyant. But Abhay Deol has proved that everything works in Bollywood. And nothing succeeds like success. "I don't think anyone can make an actor. It is an inherent quality that one has to have. I think everybody can act but not everybody can get to be an actor. If you can get somebody to ignore then camera and be themselves, they can act. "
Movie Happening-Deepika nominated for an International Award
What we don't know and what might surprise even her fans is that she has been nominated in the Best Actress category at the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival which will be held from March 22 to April 13 for the film Chandni Chowk to China. Deepika admits that she is very happy to be nominated considering that the film did so badly at the box office.
Movie Happening-Bachchan, an Icon in Anil Dharkar's Book
Jaya Bachchan pointed out that her mother-in-law Teji Bachchan had passed away not so long ago and in her honor, the Bachchan did not celebrate Holi. She spoke to the press while in the capital with her husband for the launch of Anil Dharkar's book 'Icons: Men & Women Who Shaped Today's India' recently. Amitabh Bachchan is one of the 20 icons in Dharkar's book but his wife is not in awe of him.
Movie Review-Karma Aur Holi
Directed by Manish Gupta, Karma Aur Holi looks like a film planned on the inter-relationship complexities and dark secrets of high-society folks, but the wafer-thin script, amateurish direction and shoddy performances by the lead actor make it a no-show. More action can be caught sifting through TV channels than sitting through this boring flick.
Movie Happening-Sanjay Lucks Out
When debutant director Zoya Akhtar approached him to play the wacky reel-life director Ranjeet, Sanjay was skeptical. He was used to playing the main lead, although he never gave a hit. However, he loved the script and accepted the role. Now, he is glad that he did. His character Ranjeet, who loves Clint Eastwood and is inspired by Hollywood DVDs, has earned him so much appreciation that Sanjay is all smiles.
